Hemangiopericytomas of the uterus

Hemangiopericytomas are “cellular” tumors found in almost every site or organ in the body. Originally thought to be relatively benign, more recent data indicate that they have a fairly high degree of malignancy. Only a few have been recognized in the uterus. The present report includes 6 previously reported and 7 additional instances of this tumor. In our experience to date and from the scanty data in the literature, this tumor when in the uterus has not had a malignant course. Possible reasons for these apparent differences between the course of the uterine and nonuterine hemangiopericytomas are discussed.
