In the years 1957 to 1971, 301 patients with endometriosis were treated at the Norfolk General Hospital by operation alone. During the same period, 53 patients in our series were treated by hormonal pseudopregnancy with or without operation. Of these 53 patients, 47 have been followed for 2 to 16 years. The pregnancy rate for infertility patients treated by pseudopregnancy was 25.8 per cent as compared with a rate of 58.9 per cent for those treated by operation alone. A second operative procedure was required for treatment of endometriosis in 34.1 per cent of those patients treated by operation and pseudopregnancy, while 27.1 per cent of those treated by operation alone required a repeat operation for this disease. Nineteen of 21 patients who had a pelvic operation following pseudopregnancy were found to have active endometriosis remaining.
