      Abstract

Patients treated for endometrial carcinoma at the Upstate Medical Center in the years 1956–1961 have been reviewed and the results tabulated and discussed. The modalities of treatment used during this period have been outlined and improvements in technique have been suggested. Preoperative irradiation and total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy 6 weeks later appear to be the treatment of choice, particularly if the uterus is sterilized by this procedure. It was also found that the associated features of infertility, diabetes, and hypertension were not raised to an appreciably significant level in this series. A small group of patients treated for uterine sarcoma over the same period is briefly discussed.
