Cost-effective screening and prevention of cervical carcinoma

Cost-effective screening and prevention of cervical carcinoma will require cooperation and integration of recommendations from organizations (1) that create guidelines for the management of abnormal Papanicolaou test results, such as the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology; (2) that make recommendations for cervical cancer screening, such as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Cancer Society, and the US Preventive Services Task Force; and (3) that provide advice and guidance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the control of vaccine-preventable diseases like human papillomavirus, such as the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
